Retired Chiari Surgeon Taking Big Step Toward a Presidential Campaign

Fri, 11/07/2014

Dr. Ben Carson, a retired pediatric neurosurgeon who performed decompression surgeries on children, has had people wanting him to run for president of the United States since last year.

Now Carson has taken a major step towards a presidential campaign. ABC News is reporting that Carson, who is very popular among conservatives, "will air a nearly 40-minute long ad introducing himself to the American people this weekend in his opening bid for the Republican nomination."

The documentary titled "A Breath of Fresh Air: A New Prescription for America" will air in 22 states and Washington, D.C. A production company run by Armstrong Williams, a conservative commentator and Carson's business manager, filmed the documentary and is paying for its airtime.

Even though he is gaining more and more attention, Carson's presence is still felt in the Chiari World by not only former patients he has helped but also by research where he has been involved. On May 16, the ICA Newsroom reported on a new research study called "Diffusion Tensor Imaging in Pediatric Chiari I." Carson was among the researchers of the study that was published on May 13.

The International Chiari Association (ICA) does not endorse political candidates, but ICA Founder/President Pete Dal Bello predicted on May 30 that Carson would run for president.

"Dr. Ben Carson, a retired pediatric neurosurgeon who performed decompression surgeries on children, will announce that he will run for president of the United States," Dal Bello wrote in his "From the President's Desk" letter that appears every Friday. "Carson has not made a decision, but look for an announcement in early 2015."

Dal Bello said that the documentary is more evidence that Carson will run for president.
