Dear readers,

There is a famous motto at Santa Barbara High School: "Once a Don, Always a Don."

As many of you know, all of the board members of the International Chiari Association (ICA) are Dons. In fact, I have known all of them since high school and I have known ICA VP/Treasurer Robert Mislang since Cleveland School.

One of the reasons that the ICA has accomplished so many things so quickly is because I've known all of them for more than 20 years. Since I already knew their personalities and they knew mine, we were able to run, not walk, in building this all-volunteer nonprofit organization.

Most of us, myself included, graduated from the high school in 1990 so next year will be our 25th Reunion. It was actually at our 20th Reunion, in 2010, that I was reunited with some of them. ICA Board Member Jennifer Sanchez had to convince me to attend the reunion, but I'm glad that she did. Who knows if the ICA, which was founded the following year, would exist without the reunion.

I am proud of my board as I couldn't build and protect the ICA without their support. In fact, the main reason why the ICA's secondary color is gold is because of the Dons. The school's colors are olive and gold.

Of course, purple is the ICA's dominant color. Many people actually think that the ICA is the one who introduced the color purple to the Chiari World. Purple has been Chiari's color since the 1970s. The ICA is the first to really the push the color purple for Chiari Awareness.

It has been another busy week for the ICA, but I hope to see at least part of the Dons' home football game tonight against rival San Marcos. My friends on the 1989 championship football team will be honored at halftime.

I'm sure there will be a mini-reunion of classmates after the game.

I am proud to wear ICA Chiari Purple every day. I am also proud to be a Don and of the ICA's strong ties to the high school.

Once a Don, Always a Don.

Take care and thanks for your support. All of us at the ICA really appreciate it.

All the best,

Pete Dal Bello
International Chiari Association (ICA)
