Dal Bello Thanks Everyone for Good Thoughts, Prayers

Thu, 09/17/2015

The International Chiari Association (ICA) announced that Founder/President Pete Dal Bello, who has been on a medical leave of absence since Aug. 4, wanted to thank everyone for their good thoughts and/or prayers.

"Since May 2, I have had burning pain throughout my body," Dal Bello said. "Fortunately, medication has helped but each day is difficult. While I haven't been diagnosed, I saw my neurosurgeon recently and he thinks that I might have chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). CIDP is an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system attacks its own nerves.

"I still have more tests and appointments before we will know for sure if I have CIDP. If I have it, I might be diagnosed as early as October. Fortunately, if this is the problem that they are finding it early. While CIDP is not well known, I will be seeing a neurologist that is a CIDP expert and I am confident that I will be feeling better soon."

Dal Bello, who has Chiari, had decompression surgery in 2009. He founded the ICA, which is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, in 2011.

"Please continue to keep me in your thoughts and/or prayers," he added. "Also, remember to keep wearing purple for Chiari Awareness - especially on ICA Purple Fridays."
